Vertical Ventilation in Stored Grain

Vertical Ventilation in Stored Grain

Harvested grain typically comes into store at 20°C or more. At such temperatures even dry grain is at risk from insects and moisture migration within bulk. Risks decline as temperature falls because saw-tooth grain beetles and grain weevils cannot breed below 15°C and 10°C respectively.

Vertical ventilation is a low cost alternative to traditional horizontal duct low volume aeration. In both systems, speed of cooling on the longest air path governs safe duct spacing.
